Welcome to the website of the Pennine GP training programme which is located to the west of the Pennines matching the footprint of the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. We hope that you find the site helpful and gives you a flavour of GP speciality training in an exciting part of the country. The scheme covers a diverse of settings from open moorland, through northern towns which are undergoing active and significant regeneration, to the city of Manchester, one of the most vibrant and cosmopolitan cities in Europe.

The training practices are located in the north-east quadrant of Greater Manchester and cover very diverse patient backgrounds from inner city Manchester to rural farming communities.
The GP educational supervisers are extremely enthusiastic and the Primary Care educators are a strong cohesive team.
The GP teaching takes place on Thursdays with a half-day programme for years one and two and a full day programme for year three; this takes the form of a half-day taught programme and a half-day directed group learning.
Living around Manchester allows you the choice of inner-city living through desirable green suburbs with café culture to open rural moorland. Shopaholics are catered for with Manchester offering a huge range of retailers. There are numerous restaurants serving nearly every cuisine.
Culture is covered with several large theatres and the world famous Halle orchestra. Sporting facilities are second to none with a world class swimming pool and veldorome. If football is your interest you will be spoilt for choice with clubs from all leagues in the locality. Outdoor people can reach national parks within 60 minutes.
Manchester International Airport has flights all over the world. London is only just over 2 hours away by train. An expanding network of trams serves Greater Manchester providing rapid and efficient transport. Rochdale and Bury town centres are rebuilding to provide excellent leisure and retail facilities. Within 10 minutes of Oldham you can be walking on open moorland.
